20. Morbio (2022)

19. Vampiro (1996)
This movie received pretty bad reviews from both critics and the audience but it always finds its place on the list of superhero horror movies. It is the story of Ella, who loses her father to a ruthless cult leader Vlad 30 centuries ago. She decides to follow Vlad who escaped earth and became a vampire.
In present-day earth, Ella is known as Vampirella and she will have to form an alliance with Adam, a Van Helsing descendant who works for a group that deals with killing vampires. This uncommon and unusual alliance will be necessary to find and deal with Vlad, their common enemy.
18. Spawn (1997)
One of the classics among superhero horrors is this action drama with Michael Jay White and John Leguizamo in leading roles. White plays a dangerous assassin named Al Simmons who is double-crossed and killed by his boss Jason Wynn, played by Martin Sheen.
In order to come back to earth and see his wife once again, Al makes a deal with the devil and returns as a monster called Spawn. He made a deal with the devil’s minion Clown to kill Wynn, but he doesn’t know that Wynn has a deal of his own, too. His plan is to destroy the world with a deadly virus and allow Hell to attack Heaven. It is now Spawn’s decision to choose between God and Evil.
17. The New Mutants (2020)
Some of the most popular young actors and actresses, including Charlie Heaton, Maisie Williams, and Anya Taylor-Joy star in this mystery horror about a group of unusual teenagers. They are kept in a hidden facility where they are safe until they learn how to control their abilities.
All of them are pretty traumatized and believe that they are treated with care but soon they will realize that there is so much more going on in this institution. All of them begin to experience horrifying and scary hallucinations and slowly start wondering what kind of facility is this institution, one where they will be cured or go completely insane.
16. The Toxic Avenger (1984)
Melvin is a janitor who works in a health club in the town of Tromaville. He becomes the victim of a cruel prank when the town bullies Bozo and Slug and their girlfriends Julie and Wanda decide to scare him, which results in Melvin falling off the window and landing in a barrel full of toxic waste.
Melvin turns into a strong monster who calls himself The Toxic Avenger and begins protecting the town from criminals. On one hand, he is seen as the town’s hero but on the other, there are influential people who want to destroy him, such as the corrupt Mayor Peter Belgoody.
15. Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (1992)
Before Sarah Michelle Gellar made her incredibly popular, Kristy Swanson played the role of the rebellious teenager Buffy Summers who learns that he is her generation’s only hope in fighting vampires who plan to destroy her city and humanity altogether. Buffy has a life every teenager wants. She is a cheerleader dating one of the most popular guys in school and spends her free time shopping with her best friends.
But when one day a mysterious man approaches her, she finds out that she is destined for something greater. She is the Slayer, one who must defend the world from vampires, and when her old friends slowly abandon her, she will turn to the town’s outcast Pike who will help her combat these fierce and strong creatures.
14. Swamp Thing (1982)
One of Wes Craven’s classics is this horror-thriller about an experiment gone wrong. Dr. Alex Holland is trying to conduct an experiment somewhere deep in the swamp. He wants to create a new species, a highly adaptable combination of an animal and a plant that would thrive in the harshest conditions.
But unfortunately, he is the one who will become subject to his own ideas and transform into some kind of a swamp monster-Swamp Thing. Desperate to learn the formula, a man called Arcane will become Holland’s biggest threat, trying to capture him and research him. Soon the chase will begin, ending with a huge confrontation between the two scientists.
13. The Wraith
This sci-fi horror-thriller introduces us to Packard Walsh and his crew who spend their days riding motorcycles and terrorizing an Arizona desert town. They force the drivers to drag race so they can win their vehicles. But their reign of terror will slowly come to end after Walsh commits murder and causes the arrival of a mysterious biker with an invincible car.
Jake Kesey will try and do what the sheriff and his deputies couldn’t do for a number of years, try to eliminate Walsh and his crew, but with otherworldy manners. He will also offer comfort to the brother of the murdered boy and befriend his girlfriend Keri Johnson.
12. Nightbreed
This fantasy horror is based on the novel Cabal by Clive Baker and it talks about a group of mutant outcasts with different abilities who must escape a psychotic serial killer and redneck vigilantes. They will find help in a brooding young man who discovers them.
Aaron Boone is a troubled young man who is somehow drawn to a mythical place called Midian where these monsters reside and hide from the rest of humanity. A special bond will arise among them, one hopefully strong enough to fight this deranged and dangerous serial killer.
11. Constantine
Keanu Reeves plays John Constantine who has a reputation for dealing with the mystical and otherwordly. He is asked to look into the suicide of a devout Catholic woman named Isabel whose twin sister, Detective Angela Dodson is convinced she would never take her own life. But Constantine is in fact a demon hunter whose mission is to send demons back to where they crawled from.
He has been to Hell already and knows that he will be sent there when he dies but he hopes that his good deeds might take him to Heaven. While trying to find clues and the reason for Isabel’s death, he will realise that demons are trying to enter the human world and he will have to get ready to fight Satan himself.
10. Split
Even though there are some disappointing movies behind him, M.Night Shyamalan can really make a good movie and Split is definitely one of them. With James McAvoy in the leading role, this horror thriller really keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. It is the story of Kevin who has evidenced 23 different personalities to his psychiatrist Dr. Fletcher.
But there is still one more personality, hidden somewhere deep inside him but it comes every now and then to the surface. Persuaded by one of his personalities, Kevin kidnaps three girls and begins to struggle inside, trying to fight everyone living there but also the ones around him who want to make him feel better and discover what more is hiding inside him.
9. Batman Returns
Even though this is not a typical horror movie, it has enough scary moments and sequences to put it on this list. It is Tim Burton’s way of horror, impressionistic, gothic, and full of wacky characters. His characters gain another dimension in this excellent sequel where we meet new villains and Batman’s rivals.
He is one of the most famous and beloved heroes of all time, constantly fighting various twisted characters who want to see him dead. In this sequel, Batman has to deal with a new crazy villain, one who calls himself the Penguin and who represents a great danger to the citizens of Gotham City. While he is fighting him, we follow another story, one of an unsatisfied employee of Penguin’s helper. She becomes Catwoman, looking for her own vigilante path and revenge.
8. Hellboy (2004)
Guillermo del Torro wrote and directed this interesting and inventive sci-fi fantasy-horror about a demon who has been conjured by and rescued from the Nazis. When he grows up, he will become one of the most needed defenders against the forces of darkness.
His “father” is professor Broom who is aging and needs someone to take care of him and guide him on his mission of saving the world. Hellboy teams up with the sensitive Agent John Myers and Agent Clay and they will embark on various important missions against paranormal threats which will prove to be daunting.
7. Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Ron Perlman comes back as Hellboy in this brilliant sequel about the unusual superhero and his group of helpers. He managed to save the world from the evil Russian Rasputin and now has to deal with the fact that the operations of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense have to remain secret.
But a new danger is threatening them and soon they will find themselves fighting the powerful Elven prince Nuada who wants to retrieve the fragments of a crown that commands the strong Golden Army. It is an indestructible legion of warriors who want to destroy all humankind and appear to be too strong for Hellboy and his crew.
6. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Sam Raimi directed this excellent sequel to one of the most beloved superhero movies of the last decade. Doctor Strange teams up with a mysterious teenage girl from his dreams who can travel across Multiverse. They will have to fight various threats, including Doctor Strange from the other universe.
These villains threaten to wipe out millions of people across the multiverse and Strange and his companion will have to rely on help from his allies, including Wong and Scarlet Witch.
5. Blade II (2002)
There is a rare mutation in the vampire community, coming in the form of a Reaper, a vampire so thirsty for any kind of blood. They are preying on both humans and vampires, transforming victims who are unlucky to become Reapers themselves.
They are now threatening other vampires and soon there won’t be enough humans to satisfy their bloodlust. The Shadow Council, concerned about everyone’s safety, decides to summon Blade, Whistler, and an armory expert Scud, reluctantly confessing they are in desperate need of their help. Together with an elite team of vampires, The Bloodpack, Blade is the only one who can stop the Reapers from wiping out the human and vampire population.
4. Blade (1998)
One of the best superhero horror movies is the interesting story of Blade, a vampire hunter whose goal is to rid the world of all vampires. After witnessing a vampire attack, Blade fights it off, saves Dr. Karen Jenson, and takes her to his hideout.
While Blade is trying to heal Karen, with help from his friend Abraham Whistler, there is great danger lurking from the outside. The vampire Quinn who was attacked by Blade, reports back to his master Deacon Frost who has something sinister on his mind and is planning a huge, dangerous surprise for the entire human population.
3. Brightburn
One of the scariest horrors in the past few years is this sci-fi mystery about a family who after a long struggle with infertility finally has a baby in their arm. But it was a mysterious arrival of a baby boy who seems to be everything Tory and her husband Kyle wanted.
Brandon is bright, curious, and talented but as the years go by and he is about to get into puberty, he starts getting more and more dangerous with his different powerful manifests. Tori and Kyle will soon realize that their family is in grave danger since Brendan will start acting out on his urges.
2. The Crow (1994)
The Crow is a horror masterpiece and one of the classics with the late Brendan Lee is a brilliant crime drama about the guitarist Eric Draven who gets brutally killed, together with his fiancee. One year after this gruesome act, he is brought back to life by a crow who is now guiding him through the land of the living and in search of his killers.
